BYD’s blazing-fast Flash charging tech for EVs got hot enough to roast a turkey

A livestreamed test of BYD’s Megawatt Flash Charge pushed the battery to 169.6°F, above China’s recommended safety ceiling for LFP cells.

The result renewed concerns that ultra-fast charging can generate damaging heat and accelerate battery wear.

The case underscores the industry tradeoff between charging speed and long-term battery durability.

BYD’s Blade Battery and rivals such as CATL, Tesla, Porsche, Hyundai, Lucid and Geely remain in the broader ultra-fast charging race.
