E-readers are getting features they don't need, and it's going to slow them down

E Ink is teaming with MediaTek to add on-device AI to future e-ink devices using new processors built for local inference.

The features could be useful on larger e-ink tablets for tasks like translation and summaries.

But on standard e-readers, the added AI may be unnecessary bloat that slows devices and complicates a simple reading experience.
