Zach Cregger says the new Resident Evil film will not retell Leon’s story or adapt a specific game directly.

Instead, it will be an original story set around the events of Resident Evil 2, using the game universe as its backdrop.

The movie will still feature familiar series elements like Umbrella Corporation and the T-virus.

Cregger says the goal is to make it work as a standalone tale within the Resident Evil world.
