Researchers compared two common mouse models of multiple sclerosis, cuprizone (CPZ) and LPC, against human MS tissue.

CPZ more closely matched gradual myelin loss and repair, while LPC better reflected stronger immune activity and localized lesions.

Single-cell RNA sequencing also revealed genetic differences between the models and human tissue.

The findings could help scientists choose the right model for specific MS features and accelerate therapies that restore myelin.
