OpenAI Said to Be Making a Phone With AI Agents to Replace Apps

OpenAI is reportedly developing an AI-powered smartphone centered on agentic features rather than traditional apps.

The company is said to be working with MediaTek, Qualcomm, and Luxshare on the hardware and chip supply chain.

According to the report, specs may be finalized in 2026–2027, with production targeted for 2028.

The effort would be OpenAI’s biggest hardware step yet and could reshape how smartphones handle tasks.
