Did T. rex Leave These Mysterious Marks on Dinosaur Bones?

A study of more than 3,000 Late Cretaceous dinosaur fossils from Wyoming found that some marks were likely made by Tyrannosaurus rex.

Researchers used a new framework to distinguish real bite traces from grooves, punctures, and scores caused by disease, erosion, or other animals.

Four bones showed patterns consistent with T. rex bites, while most of the other damage had different explanations.

The findings suggest some carcasses were scavenged around the time of death and improve tools for reconstructing ancient food webs.
