China unveils 220-pound robot ‘construction worker’ to use human tools on moon

China says Chang’e-8 will carry a 100-kilogram lunar “Moon mechanic” built by HKUST.

The robot has wheels, robotic arms, and AI to move instruments, place sensors, and handle tools.

It is meant to test semi-autonomous construction and equipment handling for future lunar infrastructure.

The focus is the Moon’s South Pole, where water ice could help support long-term missions.
