5th Circuit blocks Texas law requiring websites to filter "harmful" speech

A 5th Circuit panel blocked Texas from forcing websites to monitor and filter content to keep minors from seeing material deemed harmful.

The court said those content-filtering provisions are preempted by Section 230 and rejected AG Ken Paxton’s claim that they were just compliance duties.

A student group lacked standing to challenge the law, so age-verification and ad-targeting provisions remain in place.
