Amazon to Acquire Satellite Communications Giant Globalstar, Maintaining and Strengthening Partnership with Apple

Amazon has agreed to acquire Globalstar in a deal valued at over $10 billion, aiming to add device-to-device satellite connectivity to its Amazon Leo low-Earth-orbit network.

At the same time, Amazon signed a separate agreement to provide satellite communication services for Apple’s iPhone and Apple Watch.

The deal would transfer Globalstar’s existing satellite communications infrastructure to Amazon, helping ensure continuity for Apple’s emergency messaging and location-sharing features.

Amazon may also collaborate with Apple in the future through Amazon Leo, expanding satellite coverage beyond areas without terrestrial networks.
