Satya Nadella on the future of work: "The fallacy of a fixed amount of work and a lack of imagination are holding us back"

Satya Nadella said fears that AI will simply destroy jobs rest on the “lump of labor” fallacy.

He argued technology usually changes job categories and creates new kinds of work, rather than only eliminating labor.

As examples, he pointed to typists disappearing and to software and legal work shifting toward humans supervising AI outputs.

Nadella said there will be disruption and displacement, but expects new jobs to emerge as AI adoption grows.
