Japan wants to encircle the Moon with an 11,000-kilometer ring: the plan to send infinite energy to Earth

A Japanese firm, Shimizu Corporation, has proposed the “Luna Ring,” a concept for an 11,000-kilometer solar belt around the Moon’s equator.

The system would use lunar materials and autonomous robots to build a ring of solar cells that harvests constant sunlight.

Power would be transmitted wirelessly to Earth via microwaves and lasers, avoiding Earth’s night cycle, clouds, and atmospheric losses.

Backed by JAXA in concept, the plan is a long-term vision for space-based energy rather than a ready-to-build project.
