Apple Launches New Legal Challenge Against UK Backdoor Demand

Apple has filed a new challenge at the UK Investigatory Powers Tribunal over a government notice seeking access to encrypted iCloud backups.

The order is a technical capability notice aimed at UK users’ backups and was previously narrowed after pushback from the U.S.

The case could set an important precedent on whether governments can compel access to encrypted cloud data and weaken end-to-end security.

Privacy groups including Privacy International and Liberty are also pursuing related legal action against similar powers.
