Meta can see your Instagram messages now, and it's time to stop using it

Meta has ended end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages.

Ongoing Instagram chats are no longer fully private, allowing the company to read and analyze message content for safety moderation.

Users can download their chat history, but Instagram DMs now offer weaker privacy protection.

For fully encrypted messaging within Meta’s apps, WhatsApp remains the main option.
