MCP maintainers from Anthropic, AWS, Microsoft, and OpenAI lay out enterprise security roadmap at Dev Summit

At the MCP Dev Summit in New York, Anthropic, AWS, Microsoft, and OpenAI said MCP will stay open-source under the Agentic AI Foundation.

The foundation is broadening its scope to support enterprise needs such as security, reliability, authorization, and governance.

Maintainers said work is underway on auth improvements, ecosystem tooling, and possibly future protocols alongside MCP.

MCP remains focused on connecting AI agents to data and applications, reinforcing its role as a likely standard for AI-to-data connectivity.
