Samsung is reportedly developing nearline SSDs ranging from 250TB to 1PB.

The drives are aimed at read-heavy, low-write workloads like AI datasets, media archives, and RAG systems.

Scality says the effort centers on power-efficient, high-density designs such as E3L and E2 form factors.

If shipped, petabyte-scale flash could challenge hard drives in archive storage by cutting rack space and power use.
