Scientists successfully create long-predicted 3D magnetic structures ‘Hopfions’

Researchers experimentally confirmed long-theorized magnetic hopfions, a stable 3D spin texture, in thin chiral iron germanium films.

An international team used femtosecond laser pulses and microscopy, with Excalibur simulations helping verify the structures.

The result turns a predicted magnetic state into an observed one, strengthening the case for new spintronic devices.

It could support denser, faster, lower-energy memory and computing technologies based on electron spins.
