First-gen Chromecast streamers are suddenly failing for some users, 13 years later

Reports say first-generation Chromecast devices are suddenly failing or vanishing as cast targets in some apps.

The issue is inconsistent across services like Disney+, Spotify, YouTube, HBO Max, and Peacock.

Google ended updates in 2023 and had already warned performance could degrade over time.

The spike in failures suggests the 2013 Chromecast may now be reaching true end of life, including for Chromecast Audio.
