Vast, Untapped Source of Lithium Found in the US Could Last 300 Years

A USGS study estimates Appalachian pegmatites may contain about 2.3 million metric tons of recoverable lithium oxide.

The most promising deposits appear to be in the northern Appalachians and the Carolinas.

Researchers used geological data, expert input, and probabilistic modeling to reach the estimate.
