This Treatment Could Reverse Osteoarthritis Joint Damage With a Single Injection

University of Colorado Boulder researchers won a $33.5 million ARPA-H grant to develop regenerative osteoarthritis therapies.

The project, called NITRO, is testing a controlled-release injection and a biomaterial scaffold to help cartilage regrow.

Early animal and human-cell studies showed cartilage repair, but the treatments have not yet entered clinical trials.

If successful, the approach could move osteoarthritis care beyond pain relief and help restore joint function.
