US scientists’ breakthrough microscopy reveals hidden behavior of metallic nanoframes

US researchers used PINEM ultrafast electron microscopy to image plasmon dynamics in metallic nanoframes.

The team captured femtosecond-scale and nanometer-scale evolution of localized electromagnetic fields around hollow nanoframe geometries.

Their results link nanoframe shape to enhanced field confinement and suggest applications in sensing, catalysis and energy devices.
