Meta executive leaves for OpenAI as the social media giant faces growing scrutiny in India

Sandhya Devanathan, Meta’s vice president for India and Southeast Asia, is leaving after more than a decade to join OpenAI.

Based in Singapore, she will oversee consumer growth, enterprise adoption, partnerships, regulatory engagement and operations across Southeast Asia and Australia.

The move strengthens OpenAI’s Asia-Pacific leadership as Meta faces growing scrutiny from Indian authorities over platform safety and content moderation.
