Microsoft is openly competing with OpenAI, Anthropic more than ever

Satya Nadella used Microsoft’s strong earnings call to push a multi-model enterprise AI strategy instead of reliance on frontier labs like OpenAI and Anthropic.

He said Microsoft’s own MAI models, Copilot agents, and Maya chips can offer lower-cost, swappable alternatives for customers.

Nadella argued that enterprises should avoid lock-in and data-sharing risks by using interchangeable models across tasks.

He pointed to the Hugging Face/OpenAI model incident as a reminder that no single model should be trusted as the default.
