Foreign-made robot vacuums caught up in FCC robot ban — covers any ground robot over 4.4 pounds with a 200 kbps connection

The FCC has added foreign-made advanced robotics to its Covered List, and the definition may sweep in some robot vacuums.

Devices over 4.4 pounds that use sensors and connect via Bluetooth, Wi‑Fi, cellular, or satellite could fall under the rule.

That could block equipment authorization for new models, making import and sale much harder for foreign manufacturers.

The FCC temporarily paused some firmware-update restrictions for robots, but the broader market and supply-chain risk remains.
