Seagate to start qualifying record-setting 50TB HDDs in 2027 — most drives are sold out through 2028

Seagate said its Mozaic 5 HAMR platform remains on track for qualification shipments in late 2027.

That puts 50TB-class hard drives on pace to begin shipping in 2028.

Strong AI and cloud demand has left most nearline HDD output sold out through 2028, with 2029 allocations already being discussed.

The company said long-term supply agreements cover product mix and pricing, and it is using value-based pricing for remaining capacity.
