Scientists Uncover Promising New Strategy To Stop Parkinson’s in Its Tracks

University of Pennsylvania researchers identified GPNMB as a protein that may help Parkinson’s-related clumps spread in the brain.

In lab experiments, antibodies that blocked GPNMB reduced the spread of alpha-synuclein, the protein linked to Parkinson’s.

The results were supported by human brain tissue data from the Penn Brain Bank.

The findings raise the possibility of a disease-slowing treatment, not just symptom relief, for Parkinson’s disease.
