New 10-watt antenna helps underwater robots communicate across 2,296 feet

University of Florida researchers developed BlueME, a compact magnetoelectric antenna array for underwater robot communication.

The system uses low-frequency electromagnetic signals to transmit robot-to-robot data over 700 meters while drawing about 10 watts.

That low-power range could let autonomous underwater vehicles share richer information in real time.

The result may improve navigation, coordination, and safety in deep or murky waters.
