Ransomware alert… incidents up 80% in the first half

Ransomware reports in South Korea surged in the first half, with KISA logging 145 cases, up 76.8% year on year and already more than half of last year’s total.

Attacks hit companies across manufacturing, pharma, IT and professional services, including Kyowon Group, Hyundai Pharm, Kukje Pharma and Hyundai Elevator.

Some victims suffered data leaks and system outages, while others were listed on the dark web as alleged targets.

Experts warn that attackers are combining encryption with data theft and using AI to automate attacks, raising the overall threat level.
