Scientists Stunned After Finding Plant Thought Extinct for 60 Years

A plant thought extinct for nearly 60 years was rediscovered in remote northern Queensland.

A horticulturalist and bird bander photographed the mystery plant and posted it to iNaturalist.

Botanists identified it as Ptilotus senarius, last seen in 1967, and later confirmed it was still alive.

The species has since been moved to the critically endangered list.
