Red Eléctrica has again asked industry to reduce its electricity consumption: this time the reason was the wind

Spain’s grid operator Red Eléctrica asked industry to temporarily cut electricity use after power output, especially wind generation, came in below forecast.

The demand-response service was activated from 10:18 p.m. until midnight, using part of the capacity contracted by companies that join voluntarily.

It was the third time this year the SRAD mechanism has been used, highlighting the system’s flexibility tools for balancing supply and demand.

The episode underscores pressure on the grid during high demand and extreme heat, and the role of large industrial consumers in keeping the system stable.
