China reveals 198-ton ‘six-module’ plan for Tiangong space station as ISS era ends

China is reportedly planning to expand Tiangong into a six-module station with more docking ports, research space, and crew capacity.

The upgraded complex would weigh about 198 tons and could become the dominant human outpost in low Earth orbit as the ISS is retired.

The plan is designed to strengthen China’s orbital science capabilities and its influence in future international space cooperation.

Officials are also preparing for broader participation from partners such as Pakistan, Hong Kong, and Macau.
