Uber is building an autonomous vehicle empire, and here’s every company it’s using to do it

After abandoning its in-house self-driving effort, Uber has rebuilt an autonomous-vehicle ecosystem through partnerships and equity stakes in more than 30 AV companies.

The earlier era under Travis Kalanick included the Otto and Uber ATG acquisitions, but safety and legal setbacks, followed by 2020 divestitures, forced a reset.

Uber re-entered the sector in 2022 and accelerated in 2024, expanding deals across robotaxis, fleet operations, and autonomous trucking.

With partners such as Aurora, Waymo, Autobrains, and Avomo, Uber is positioning itself less as a tech builder and more as the platform and operator at the center of AV mobility.
