Netflix Hit With $105 Million Lawsuit After Losing Master Copy Of Unreleased Nicolas Cage Movie: ‘Someone Stole A Good Amount Of Drives’

Netflix is facing a $105 million lawsuit over an allegedly stolen master copy of the unreleased Nicolas Cage film Fortitude from its Los Angeles office.

Writer-producer Simon Afram and Op-Fortitude filed the case in California federal court, claiming the drives were stolen from Sunset Bronson Studios and the master was lost.

Netflix said in an email that it was aware of the theft and that its security and piracy teams were responding, but it has been criticized for not involving police.

The alleged loss could hurt the film’s distribution prospects and adds to Netflix’s legal exposure over handling sensitive content.
