NextSilicon’s Spectra supercomputer achieves full acceptance at US’ Sandia National Laboratories

Sandia National Laboratories completed acceptance testing of NextSilicon’s Spectra supercomputer and said it met the required benchmark and stability criteria.

Spectra runs on NextSilicon’s Maverick-2 accelerators and is being evaluated for the Vanguard program’s national security and scientific workloads.

The result validates an unconventional chip architecture for mission-critical HPC use and could offer better performance per watt than GPU-centric systems.

It also strengthens the case for alternatives to Nvidia- and Arm-based supercomputing stacks in power-sensitive environments.
