US ally advances 18,900-ton nuclear missile-carrying submarine with new contract

BAE Systems has secured a major UK defense contract to continue building the Dreadnought-class ballistic missile submarines.

The funding covers completion, trials, and outfitting of the first four boats, which will replace the aging Vanguard fleet in the 2030s.

The deal helps keep Britain’s nuclear deterrent modernization on track and supports a key strategic capability.

It also sustains high-value work at the Barrow shipyard and advances one of the UK’s most important military programs.
