YouTube now works with Android Auto, but only for audio playback

Google has added native playback controls for YouTube within Android Auto so users can play, pause, and skip from the car interface.

YouTube videos still do not display on car head units; only audio is routed to the vehicle.

Background audio playback requires at least a YouTube Premium Lite subscription.

A fuller YouTube experience for Android Auto is rumored to be announced at Google I/O 2026.
