Microsoft pulls plug on plans for 244-acre data center in Caledonia

Microsoft has dropped plans for a 244-acre data center site in the Village of Caledonia, Wisconsin.

The move followed strong local opposition, including hundreds of residents speaking out and a petition with more than 2,000 signatures.

Microsoft says it still intends to invest in Southeast Wisconsin and will look for a different site.

The case highlights how community pressure can derail large tech development projects and reshape site selection.
