Near-invisible solar cells 10,000 times thinner than human hair turn sunlight into power

Researchers at Nanyang Technological University developed near-invisible perovskite solar cells about 10,000 times thinner than a human hair.

A semi-transparent version lets through 41% of visible light while still reaching 7.6% power conversion efficiency.

The team used thermal evaporation to make uniform ultrathin films and has filed a patent as it works on durability and scaling.

The advance could turn windows, vehicles, and other everyday surfaces into clean power sources without bulky panels.
