Anthropic says its leak-focused DMCA effort unintentionally hit legit GitHub forks

Anthropic asked GitHub to remove a leaked Claude Code repository and about 96 named forks.

GitHub expanded the request and disabled roughly 8,100 forked repositories that it treated as infringing.

Many legitimate forks of Anthropic’s public Claude Code repo were swept up and later Anthropic asked for limited reinstatement.

Anthropic said the overbroad takedowns were unintentional and blamed a communication mistake.
