De-Extinction Company Says It's Hatched Chicks From Artificial Eggshells

Colossal Biosciences says 26 chicks hatched inside a 3D-printed artificial eggshell that controlled oxygen flow and incubation.

The company says the technology could eventually support efforts to engineer birds resembling the extinct moa.

Independent scientists urged caution, saying the result is only an artificial eggshell, not evidence that extinct species can be revived.

Researchers also noted major biological and ecological hurdles remain before de-extinction in birds becomes feasible.
