US nuclear recycling plant could extract 100 times more energy from uranium fuel

BLSK Energy signed a cooperative research agreement with Argonne National Laboratory to commercialize pyroprocessing of spent nuclear fuel.

The plan targets a pilot recycling facility by 2034 to produce fuel for advanced fast reactors.

If successful, the process could turn nuclear waste into usable fuel, boost energy recovered from uranium, and reduce waste volumes.

The effort may also ease long-term storage burdens and expand the future supply of reactor fuel.
