Cannabis Use Disorder Strongly Linked to Major Depression, New Review Finds

A review of 55 studies with more than 3.2 million participants found a strong overlap between cannabis use disorder and major depressive disorder.

About 32% of people with cannabis use disorder also had depression, while just over 10% of people with depression had cannabis use disorder.

The study shows a correlation, not causation, but suggests clinicians should assess both conditions together.

Researchers say the finding may help improve screening and treatment as cannabis becomes more widely legalized.
