GitHub will start charging Copilot users based on their actual AI usage

GitHub will shift Copilot to a usage-based billing model on June 1.

Subscribers will get monthly AI Credits tied to their plan, and extra usage will be billed by token consumption and model rates.

Basic code suggestions stay free, but code reviews will also consume GitHub Actions minutes.

The move links Copilot pricing more closely to actual AI usage and could raise costs for heavy users.
