OpenAI pulls the plug on Sora, ending $1 billion Disney deal in sudden pivot

OpenAI scrapped the Sora video-creation app announced on Tuesday that it is discontinuing the Sora app.

OpenAI and Walt Disney Co. ended a proposed $1 billion partnership the partnership had been announced a little over three months earlier and included a proposed investment.

Sora app debuted in September 2025 as a standalone video-generation app launched as a standalone app in September 2025 to generate short films from text prompts.

OpenAI redirected resources from consumer projects to enterprise and developer offerings company said it is refocusing on enterprise products, developer coding tools, and AGI efforts.
