US startup to test modular tidal turbine in powerful Massachusetts currents

Alaska-based Sitkana will deploy a full-scale modular tidal turbine prototype at the Bourne Tidal Test Site in Massachusetts’ Cape Cod Canal.

The trial will assess power output, durability, reliability, and wildlife interactions in strong real-world tidal currents.

Recent site upgrades should help support future grid-connected testing.

If successful, the modular design could cut installation and maintenance costs and improve the viability of tidal power in remote coastal areas.
