Google Cloud launches two new AI chips to compete with Nvidia

Google Cloud unveiled its eighth-generation custom AI chips: TPU 8t for training and TPU 8i for inference.

The company says the new TPUs improve performance and cost efficiency and can scale to clusters of more than 1 million chips.

Google will still offer Nvidia hardware and is working with Nvidia on networking upgrades.

The move shows Google pushing harder into in-house AI silicon for cheaper cloud compute without replacing Nvidia in its stack.
