Google announces personal AI agent “Gemini Spark” — works autonomously even when the device is closed

Google unveiled Gemini Spark at Google I/O 2026 as an autonomous personal AI agent that keeps working in the cloud even when devices are closed.

It can handle multiple tasks across Workspace apps like Gmail, Docs, Slides, and Drive, shifting from chat-based AI to action-oriented automation.

For safety, major actions trigger user confirmation before execution, and the rollout will begin in stages for testers and beta users.

Google also said external service integrations and Chrome support are coming this summer, with partners including Canva, OpenTable, and Instacart.
