Google is making AI images easier to create, and deepfakes easier to spot

Google launched Google Pics, an AI image-editing tool powered by its Nano Banana model that can edit photos directly in Drive and Slides.

The company is also expanding SynthID and C2PA support so more Google products and partner platforms can verify whether media is AI-generated or authentic.

The move makes AI photo editing easier to use while strengthening tools for detecting deepfakes and manipulated content.

Google is pitching the rollout as a balance between creative AI features and stronger media provenance across its ecosystem and beyond.
