Anthropic blocks Claude subscriptions from powering OpenClaw and third-party agent tools

Anthropic is blocking Pro and Max subscribers from using their plans to connect Claude to third-party agent tools starting April 4, 2026.

The company said third-party harnesses bypass prompt-cache efficiencies and strain compute and engineering resources.

Users can still use Claude models via per-token API billing or new extra-usage bundles; Anthropic gave a one-time credit and discounts up to 30%.

Anthropic previously tightened session token limits during business hours to manage demand.
