ATX12VO V3 standard shrinks the connector and maximizes power efficiency — new 8-pin connector also brings smarter power supply monitoring

Leaked Intel slides point to a rumored ATX12VO V3 power standard for PCs.

The update would drop the standby rail, swap the 10-pin main connector for a smaller 8-pin version, and shrink the CPU connector.

Intel also appears to be adding PMBus-based monitoring and real-time PSU capacity reporting between the power supply and motherboard.

If real, the revision could improve efficiency, reduce connector size, and help prevent power instability in OEM and compact systems.
