45,500-ton capacity: World’s largest subsea rock vessel enters final commissioning

Windpiper is the world’s largest subsea rock installation vessel.

Built by Boskalis, it docked in the Netherlands for final work.

It arrived in Rotterdam in early April 2026 and will be outfitted in Waalhaven.

The ship carries 45,500 tons of rock and measures 745 feet by 131 feet.

Converted from an existing ship, it has two rock holds, an inclined fall pipe, seven thrusters, and DP2, and will finish commissioning before a Baltic Sea job later this year.
